2010 All Souls Season Primer!

The End of Summer is near and we are excited to present some of the new plans and ideas for the 21rst Annual All Souls Procession Weekend!

This years Procession is on Sunday November 7, 2010-preceded by 8 weeks of free ultra inclusive workshops designed to increase your participation and heighten your experience.  Some of our workshops and events are right on the cusp of being determined and finalized…but I assure you- in the next couple of weeks the project pages will be updated completely.

August 30, 2010 Meeting/potluck for Grand Finale Workshops

Rhythm Industry Performance Factory * 1013 S. Tyndall Ave. * Tucson, AZ 85719

7:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m.  Bring a dish or drink to share.  We will be outlining the basic plan for the Grand Finale and the schedule for the workshops.  We will be hosting stiltwalking, fire, aerial and ground based dance and theater for 8 weeks preceding the All Souls Procession Weekend.  All of those also interested in helping with the nuts and bolts end of things–which is extremely important and necessary for all the other activities to occur safely and harmoniously.  We are seeking ushers for the parade route, fire safety personnel, backstage crew, merchandising assistants, crowd monitoring and clean up crew.  The  Procession and Grand Finale typically involve the time and efforts of over 260 individuals both performers and crew to accomplish this one night only site specific public ceremony.

(This year’s color for the Grand Finale is BLUE and our thematic inspiration is undersea/underworld

Food is an element in life which has so many enriching aspects. It is in the preparing, the creating and in the sharing of meals where we are given many gifts. Remembering Dinner is the latest project of the ASP Weekend, in which participants contribute treasured recipes from their ancestors and dear friends who have past on. The goal is to create a collection of recipes to share with the community over the course of several dinners.

The URN and Ancestors Projects

The Ancestors Project is a way for the public to permanently memorialize their loved ones in the Procession. It is one of the most inclusive of the ASP Projects, where participants are invited to submit photographs of their ancestry and recently deceased into a digital memorial that is projected along the Procession route and at the Grand Finale.

Please check HERE for more information on submitting images for this project.

THE URN workshops will begin in October every Wednesday evening from 7 – 9 p.m.

directly behind EPIC Cafe on University Blvd. and 4th Ave.  For more information about how to remotely contribute to this project please check HERE.

FUNDING THE ALL SOULS PROCESSION

Many participants either assume that the City of Tucson pays for this event to happen– others who know better, wonder how we do it.  We ask ourselves that every year–how are we going to make ends meet?   We have also made the deep community commitment to keep over-bearing corporate dollars out of the picture since we began the process.  This puts us in a position each year to take on 10′s of thousands of dollars of debt to ensure that the All Souls Procession remain fiscally resposnible to our vendors, artists, city agencies and the like.  Last year small private donations accounted for almost half of our budget!  We want to continue that trend.

Many Mouths One Stomach (MMOS)  is a private 501c3 organization-your cash donations are tax deductible and you can earmark your monies for the different projects that you either participate in or have a love for.  No one artist or group makes any money on this event
