We encourage locals to come dressed up…Dress your best, dress like a fool… show us how you do it when you do it when you don’t care who cares… We may even have a fashion show and ask you to be a part of it. We will have a “beach-side” photo studio for your pleasure and archives.

As organizers of the Procession, our priority is always quality of experience over quantity of participants, and though the Procession has grown exponentially, we will always strive to propagate an “ALL SOULS PROCESSION” that is a grassroots, non-commercial, hyper-inclusive, sacred event dedicated to honoring our ancestors and loved ones who have passed on.

ASP ROUGH GUIDE

DO: Come and enjoy the experience in a way that works for you. Dress up, get out of your regular regiment and persona; make a mask, a puppet, an art installation, an altar; some way of honoring those who have gone before, who we remember, honor, release, and embrace. Allow yourself to flow into an experience of real community, where we interact in ways that are different, authentic to our nature, and open to our feelings.

DON’T: Be high, drunk, or in anyone’s space in a way that makes them feel uncomfortable. This event should be safe to bring a newborn infant to, or your dear aging grandmother. What allows the magic to happen is for everyone to feel safe. It is your job to create this kind of space. The moment we require help from police or any other authority to make sure that happens, we have lost something truly precious. Please make sure to honor barricades, civilian security and civic event staff at grand finale and take care for yourself and your fellow participants in stepping off of curbs, crossing streets, train tracks and trolley tracks etc.

The Procession of Little Angels (NEW LOCATION!)

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

The Procession of Little Angels

Saturday November 6, 2010 * ARMORY PARK* S. 6th Ave between 12th and 13th St.

Kids Art Activities: 3pm
Kids Finale Workshops: 5pm
Procession Begins: 6pm
Little Angels Finale: 6:45pm with Stories That Soar

PERSONAL ALTARS VIGIL: 3-11pm
SPOKEN WORD SOUL POETRY: 8-11pm

Little Angels is a family event acknowledging and celebrating deceased loved ones from the perspective of the child. Children participate in art activities such as wing-making and decorating, face painting, sugar skull decorating, story telling, and theater. Finale workshops are offered so that the children can participate in their own Procession/Finale-Spectacle. Angels on stilts lead the children on a procession around the Downtown public square to the finale stage area, where artists present a live performance-spectacle.

The public is invited to bring photos and drawings of their children’s deceased loved ones: pets, family and friends. We will scan them on site and project them large on the library wall. Bring a candle in a container to illuminate the children’s procession as the sun sets.Following the Little Angels Finale, the Spoken Word Soul Poetry begins…

Additionally with the huge success of the 2nd Annual Tucson Circus Arts Summer camp we are hosting children’s and youth stilt workshops that will be focused on helping to create the Little Angels Finale at the event

Every Sunday in September and October at 5 p.m. * Mansfield Park

All Kids with stilting skills are welcome to participate–as well we will have 10 pair of stilts available for use or purchase.

ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR PROCESSION OF LITTLE ANGELS 2010!

Sunday, September 19th, 2010

Call to Seamsters/Costumers: the Procession of Little Angels is in need of people with sewing skills and their own machines OR those who have talent with sewless costume assembly to participate in this year’s Costuming Workshop series. Come collaborate with families on the creation of their children’s costumes for this year’s Little Angels festival!

Workshops will be held Sunday afternoons from 1pm-4pm, Oct. 3rd through Oct. 31st; and Wednesday evenings from 6pm-9pm, Oct. 6th through Nov. 3rd.

Interested individuals need not commit to all dates to participate. For more information on how to join our team, send an email to littleangelsart@gmail.com or call jhon at 520-834-3151.

Remnants Drive for Kids Costuming: Spare fabric and remnants donations are needed to add to our communal give-away pile for use by families at this year’s kids Costuming Workshop series. Or consider gifting a length of new material! Anything useful to the creation of a magical ensemble that a child would love to make and wear at this year’s Procession of Little Angels would be most appreciated. To make your offering, email littleangelsart@gmail.com or call jhon at 520-834-3151.

Re-used/Recycled Materials for Procession of Little Angels: we are now collecting the following re-used/recycled materials for use in the creation of various props that kids will make for themselves at this year’s Little Angels festival: plastic water bottles, aluminum pie pans, and cardboard paper-towel tubes. If you would like to save up and donate any of these items to Procession of Little Angels, email littleangelsart@gmail.com or call jhon at 520-834-3151.

CHANGE OF LOCATION: Many Mouths One Stomach is pleased to announce a location change this year for both the Procession of Little Angels and the kids Costuming Workshops to Armory Park!

Procession of Little Angels 2010 will be held on November 6th at Armory Park from 3 pm-7 pm. The kids Costuming Workshops will run Sundays (1-4pm) and Wednesdays (6-9pm), October 3rd through November 3rd inside the Armory Park Center.

Bones For Bones ASP benefit @Armory Park

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

The All Souls Procession Fundraising Committee is seeking artwork donations for an art auction at the fall fundraising event “Bones for Bones”.  This indoor event is on October 1st in the auditorium at Armory Park.  Along with the art auction we will have an outstanding lineup of local music and performances.  Food will also be available for sale.  All funds will benefit the annual All Souls Procession and organizers Many Mouths One Stomach.

This is a great community opportunity to show your work and give to our most well attended public event.  The All Souls Procession is perhaps one of the most important, inclusive and authentic public ceremonies in North America today. The Procession had its beginnings in 1990 with a ritualistic performance piece created by local artist Susan Johnson, who was grieving the passing of her father. Inspired by Mexico’s Dia de los Muertos holiday, Johnson felt she should honor her father in celebration and creativity. The performance was very well received and many artists were inspired to continue growing the Procession into its modern incarnation.  Today, over 20,000 people participate in the 2-mile procession and related events.  This event is funded entirely by grants, donations, business contributions, and fundraising.

Your artwork can help us meet our goals for the 21st All Souls Procession.

Guidelines:
•    Artwork will be sold in either a silent auction or raffle on Friday, October 1st at Armory Park, in conjunction with other fundraising events.  This event takes place from 6-12pm.
•    Artists are encouraged to submit art with an All Souls theme, but it is not required.
•    Artwork must be ready-to-hang with wire, hooks, or other devices appropriate to artwork weight.  For questions on artwork display please contact the organizers.
•    Artists will be able to set the starting bid price for their artwork.
•    All proceeds benefit the procession.
•    Artwork may be submitted at the Sculpture Resource Center on Sept. 24th, 25th, and 26th from 3-6pm.  If you are unable to submit artwork during these times, please contact us for other arrangements.  Submitted artwork must come with (1) a complete application and (2) an attached 3×5” note card with the following information:
Artist Name
Artwork Title
Medium
Size
Starting Bid

For questions on submissions, please contact David Campbell:
