“Soul Poetry” will not be your average poetry event. We will be reading poetry on loss, death, transition of spirit and soul. This event will feature:Open mic with spotlight features by spoken word poets. Hosted by Ocotillo Poetry Slam, and Maya Asher. Every time this event is held the words and voices of the community create evocation. Our ability to speak aloud and creatively express our loss, encourages release, invites connection, and stirs our sense of self. Come and listen to spoken word artists, poets, and writers of all kinds. If you choose to sign up for this event come early, slots fill up fast. Bring photos of loved ones and ancestors that have crossed to the other side.

Sign up starts at 6:30, at Armory Park (After the procession of the little Angels). 7:00 we will start with a ‘warm up’ and series of chants and prayers and a moment of silence. 7:30 Poetry reading will start and last for two hours. Special addition: Maya Asher will be accepting submissions for a small poetry chapbook composed of selections from readers at this event.  So if you would like to see your work in print, please come read and submit. All proceeds will go to support All Souls Procession and Ocotillo Literary Endeavors.

Rules for submission:

1) You must feature or read at the open mic portion of this event, and fill out paperwork in person.

2) You must submit a digital version in a word document, 10 dollars, and two hard copies to: Tucsonpoetryfestival@gmail.com PO BOX 44000 Tucson, AZ 85719-4725 Submissions but be post marked two weeks after the procession, November 21, 2011. Chapbooks will be available for purchase
